Quiet Bike

Postby RickyRock on Fri Mar 12, 2010 12:37 pm

I put the original can on the Trumpet at the weekend and it is really quiet :woot:

I have decided to put some packing in the race can as it has reached sound levels that will get the neighbours complaining. Like all things this is proving to be a pain as the retaining bolts are rusted solid and the allen key has rounded the head IYKWIM so it is now a case of trying to use easy outs, which are proving to be not so easy out

I am giving up doing work on my vehicles and will pay for someone else to take the pain.

Just buy a new can. Get a cheap Viper can off ebay.

I am looking at a couple of cans on fleebay at the moment.

I have managed to get the bolts out, removed the carbon sleeve but now can't see how to get into the bloody can itself

On the positive side I did flush the coolant out yesterday and after several clean water flushes have a really clean system all nicely topped up with fresh ant-freeze plus adjusted and lubed the chain. Next she will get a wash a proper service and MOT :ride:

And of course a new pair of boots when I can make my mind up.

Hmm. Usually they just come apart fairly easily. Can you post photos?

The rear end:

Front end with bracket mount holes visible:

Bracket mounting holes:

The rear end it completely welded and the front section has no obvious means of fastening apart from the mounting bracket point, which are undone.

Any ideas?

I don't think that one is designed for self maintenance. You could pop a hole in it with a hole-saw and fill with loose wadding, then weld the hole up again (or use plumber's putty).

I've got a welder :) Bit of a trek, but you're welcome to pop over and I can weld it for you.
